AutoCAD and Civil Engineering Drawing Internship
Create coordinated, dimensionally clear civil drawings with layers, references and plot-ready sheets.
A civil drafting internship focused on CAD accuracy, drawing standards, site and building plan conventions, annotations, sheet setup and quality-controlled deliverables.
Program overview
Eligible branches: Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture and built-environment studies, Surveying-related programs
Target learner level: Learners with basic geometry and spatial reasoning who are starting technical drawing or CAD drafting.
Prerequisites: Basic geometry and spatial reasoning · CAD software access or an equivalent drafting platform
Technologies and tools
CAD drafting · units and scales · layers and blocks · dimensions and hatches · site plans · plans, sections and elevations · layouts and plotting
Practical assignments
- Create a layered drawing from a dimensioned reference brief
- Prepare coordinated plans, sections and elevations

- Drawing review presentation
Learning outcomes
- Set up a consistent drawing with units, layers and references
- Produce plans, sections, elevations and clear annotations
- Deliver a checked, plot-ready drawing package
Week-by-week curriculum
The program follows a 13-week core pathway. Weeks 14–15 are optional advanced work when the project scope calls for it.
Weeks 1–2
Orientation, fundamentals and setup
- Orientation, drawing standards, coordinate systems and CAD workspace setup
- Units, scales, layers, line types, object snaps and file organization
Weeks 3–5
Core concepts and guided learning
- Modify/draw tools, blocks, dimensions, hatches and text styles
- Site plans, grids, plans, sections, elevations and drafting conventions
- Layouts, viewports, plotting and sheet composition
Weeks 6–8
Intermediate concepts and practical exercises
- External references, layer states, title blocks and revision control
- Civil plan reading, levels, contours and annotation consistency
- Develop a coordinated small-site drawing set with cross-checks
Weeks 9–11
Advanced topics, specialist tools and project development
- Quantity takeoff support, drawing coordination and clash awareness
